How Navilla Works — Your Private Sexual Health Companion

How It Works

Everything Navilla does to help you take control of your sexual health — privately and on your terms.

What is Navilla?

Navilla is a private sexual health companion. It gives you tools to track your encounters, monitor your testing history, manage partners, and see anonymized exposure signals from your network — all encrypted and under your control.

Some features are free and require no account (testing calculator, STI guides). Others — like the encounter journal, health log, and exposure network — require a free account so your data can be stored securely.

Encounter Journal

A private, encrypted timeline where you log your sexual encounters. Only you can read it.

  • Log encounters with dates, partner aliases, and personal notes
  • Add custom fields like protection used, mood, or location
  • Switch between timeline view and calendar view to see your history from different angles
  • Use the calendar to quickly jump between months that have entries
  • All journal data is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it reaches the database

Partner Tracking

When you use the same alias across multiple journal entries, Navilla can promote that alias to a named partner — giving you a dedicated view of your history with that person.

  • Each partner gets a detail page showing all encounters, notes, and a timeline
  • Add private notes to any partner (visible only to you)
  • See encounter counts and date ranges at a glance from the Partners tab

Partner data is encrypted the same way as journal entries. Navilla never shares partner information with anyone — not even the partner themselves.

Health Log

Track every STI test visit in one place. Know exactly where you stand and what to test for next.

  • Log test visits with date, lab, and results per condition
  • Save your labs (clinic name, location) for quick reuse on future visits
  • See your full testing history organized by condition — with status, result values, and reference ranges
  • Track your coverage: how many of the 10 most common STIs you've been tested for this year
  • See days since your last test at a glance from the health log dashboard

Exposure Network

When you connect with other Navilla users and they report a health status, you see anonymized exposure signals — never names or identifying details.

Connections are stored as cryptographic hashes. Your network extends up to 5 degrees: if you're connected to Ana and Ana is connected to Luis, Luis is in your 2nd-degree network.

If you have fewer than 3 connections, exposure data is hidden entirely. With only 1 or 2 connections, a signal could reveal a specific person's status. The 3-connection minimum protects everyone.

Exposure signals are useful but have limitations:

  • Exposure does not mean you are infected — it means someone in your extended network reported a condition
  • Data is self-reported and may be delayed or incomplete
  • The network only includes Navilla users — your real-world exposure may differ
  • Exposure updates in delayed snapshots, not in real time, to prevent timing-based inference

Free Tools — No Account Needed

These tools are available to everyone, no signup required. No data is collected.

  • Testing timing calculator — enter a date and see exactly when each STI test becomes reliable based on window periods
  • STI guides — clear, plain-language guides on 10 common conditions covering symptoms, testing, and treatment
  • Testing cost reference — estimated costs for STI testing at clinics in Mexico

Privacy & Security

Privacy is not a feature — it's the foundation everything is built on.

  • All sensitive data (partner names, notes, health records) is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before reaching the database
  • Each user has a unique encryption key derived from a master secret
  • We never show names, usernames, or emails of people who report health conditions
  • We do not use third-party tracking, analytics SDKs, or advertising networks
  • We are working toward full end-to-end encryption where the server cannot read your data at all
